A man was doused with gasoline Friday afternoon during a fight with another man on a First Nations reserve in Pitt Meadows.

The friends began their dispute outside the Katzie First Nation’s band office around 2 p.m.

Police allege a 39-year-old man threw gasoline on his friend as he entered the band office.

He was arrested after police were called, but later released on bail.

RCMP are recommending a charge of assault.

 

Gas theft

A witness helped police catch a couple that stole gas from a car Friday in Maple Ridge.

A man and woman were seen at 8:30 a.m. siphoning gas from a parked vehicle in the 22300-block of McIntosh Avenue in Maple Ridge.

The witness got a good description of the car they were in and police were able to locate it a short distance away.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both residents of Maple Ridge.

During the arrest, officers found the man in possession of a bag of marijuana.

Both were released on a promise to appear in court.

 

Heroin seized

Police seized illegal drugs from a man found asleep behind the wheel of his car in Maple Ridge on Thursday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called around  7:15 a.m. after people noticed the man slumped on the steering wheel of a Honda Civic that was parked in the middle of 132nd Avenue, near 236th Street.

Upon arrival, police noticed the drugs, believed to be heroin and crack cocaine, and other drug paraphernalia inside the car, beside the sleeping man.

The man was arrested, but released with a court date set for September.

Police are recommending charges of drug trafficking and possession of two prohibited weapons.

 

Drunks, druggies beware

A contingent of Ridge Meadows Mounties and auxiliary constables will be keeping an eye on West Coast Express stations on Saturday while people head downtown for the Celebration of Light.

The RCMP will be taking a “zero tolerance” approach to anyone planning on attending the event who may be in possession of alcohol or drugs.

“Our officers have a clear directive to enforce all liquor and illegal drug laws, and not allow anyone to board a WestCoast Express train who is either in possession or under the influence of either alcohol or drugs,” said Supt. Dave Walsh.

“Any violators will be identified, dealt with and then turned away.”

West Coast Express will operate a special train on Saturday for the fireworks finale.

The train departs Mission at 7 p.m. and leaves Waterfront for the return trip at midnight.

 

Drunk driver

A man caught driving while drunk Sunday had his car impounded for 30 days.

Police were called around 9:30 p.m. after the man was seen driving erratically on 227th Street. Police stopped the man’s vehicle and noted he appeared to be impaired by alcohol.

The man provided two breath samples into a roadside screening device. Both resulted in ‘fail’ readings.

As a result, the man lost his driver’s licence for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Police also learned the man had recently been released on bail with conditions that prohibit him from consuming alcohol.

He was released on a promise to appear in court.

 

Stolen car

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for a red 1989 Toyota Supra that was stolen from a house in Maple Ridge Tuesday.

The theft around 1:30 a.m. on McKinney Avenue.

The car had B.C. licence plates 015 XFM.  The car also had blue headlights, silver wheel rims on the front wheels and gold coloured rims on the rear tires, as well as a noisy muffler system.  The car was last seen in the Maple Ridge industrial park, along Stewart Crescent.
