An arrest has been made and a suspect is facing charges that may include: assault, assaulting a police officer, mischief and obstructing a police officer following a Sept. 25 altercation at a Duncan business.
Mounties were called to a business in the 300 block of the Trans Canada Highway around 1 p.m. that day.
A nearby constable arrived quickly to learn a man had just assaulted staff members and was continuing to cause a scene inside the store, police said.
“The man was placed under arrest but refused to cooperate with the police officer,” wrote North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP spokesperson Const. Pam Bolton in a news release. “The man and officer struggled to the ground where the man assaulted the officer. Back up was called in to assist in gaining control of the man. A large force of uniformed and plain clothed police officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to the call for help.”
The man was taken into custody and will attend Provincial court in Duncan.
“The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP remind the public to please keep your distance from the police while they are engaged in a potentially dangerous situation. Keeping the public safe is a priority for us,” Bolton wrote.
During this incident, there were many people in the store who witnessed what happened.
“Police are asking, if you have not spoken with the police and observed the incident, please contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 and refer to file number 2019-17161,” Bolton said.
