Man facing string of charges following lengthy St. Patrick's Day crime spree

A 37-year-old man is facing a string of charges following a three-and-a-half hour crime spree that included an attempt to take over a city bus.

The St. Patrick’s Day crime spree began around 8:30 p.m. when police were called to the 1200 block of Douglas Street. A BC Transit bus driver had been assaulted by a lone man who boarded the bus, but officers weren’t able to find the suspect.

It didn’t take long before police were called to the area of Government and Courtney Street after a man jumped in front of a security vehicle and attempted to grab the keys. The driver of the vehicle wrestled the keys away from the man who fled the area. But a half hour later, the man climbed through the driver’s window of a BC Transit bus at the intersection of Douglas and Yates streets, got on top of the driver and attempted to take control of the wheel.

The bus inadvertently turned off as the man climbed through the window and the three passengers on board came to the driver’s aid, removing the man from the bus.

But it didn’t end there. At around 10:30 p.m., police went to the 700 block of Johnson Street after a man attempted to steal a vehicle, but was fought off by the people inside. It wasn’t until around midnight that police were able to arrest the man, found forcibly kicking the door of a home in the 200 block of Kingston Street in an effort to get inside.

The man refused to identify himself, but officers were able to confirm his identity through fingerprints and confirm he was responsible for the four incidents that night.

David Levasseur is facing six charges including assault, attempted robbery, attempted theft over $5,000, mischief and obstructing police.
