The search to find a quadriplegic Surrey man has been called off after new information was passed on to RCMP.
According to Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Blair McColl, the search for David Vickery, 35, ended Sunday afternoon when it was learned that he had taken a cab ride to Main and Hastings streets in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
More than 30 search and rescue members were called into action after Vickery went missing from his care facility Saturday morning.
They spent the night searching and had set up a command post at Willowbrook Mall in Langley.
“All we have been able to find out is the missing person was taken to Main and Hastings and that is the last location we have,” said McColl.
“We aren’t sure what is going on with him. We can’t speculate and will have to ask him when we find him.” Vickery was last seen in the 19500-block of the Fraser Highway.
Police had been concerned about his health. McColl said Vancouver police have been notified that Vickery may still be in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
“We found out he took a taxi and that is the last thing we know,” said McColl. “We are still looking for him and hopefully we can find him. “We now have an area where he is.”
