A man broke his leg after diving off a cliff Sunday in Golden Ears Provincial Park.
Ridge Meadows RCMP said an air ambulance had to be called to transport the man to hospital because of the severity of the injury.
The man was diving off rocks into a tributary of Gold Creek that follows into Alouette Lake, a popular swimming spot in the summer months located in east Maple Ridge.
Assistant fire chief Timo Juurakko said friends of the man floated him to shore where he was helped by an off-duty paramedic until emergency personnel arrived.
An ambulance transported the man from the lake’s north beach to an area near the entrance of the park where the air ambulance had landed.
At the end of June, a 22-year-old woman from Surrey drowned in the fast moving creek after slipping off rocks near the Upper Falls.
Her body has not yet surfaced. RCMP said water is still too high and swift but their helicopter Air One is conducting aerial search of the creek on a regular basis.
