A man was sentenced to four years in jail Wednesday after being charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking in September.

Jasbir Pawar, 34, received the sentence from Justice Elizabeth Bayliff in Williams Lake Provincial Court.

Pawar received eight-months credit for pre-sentence custody, leaving him to serve three years and four months in prison.

In addition to his jail term, Pawar was prohibited from possession of firearms for life.

The Williams Lake RCMP say that on Sept. 16, 2010, after a two-month investigation, police used a search warrant in the 1200 block of Western Avenue in Williams Lake.

Inside the residence officers located “virtually a drug store” of illicit controlled substances, more than 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, more than 10 pounds of marijuana, 6,279 ecstasy tablets, and half a pound of psilocybin (magic mushrooms).

Pawar was then arrested and charged with the trafficking counts.

The Williams Lake RCMP say they hope this serves as a deterrent for individuals who may be involved in or who are considering drug trafficking as an enterprise.

“We are committed to targeting and arresting drug traffickers to hold them accountable for preying on the vulnerable persons in our community,” the RCMP say.
