A man’s hand was slashed in a fight that broke out in downtown Victoria on Wednesday morning.
At 6:45 a.m., a witness called police about a stabbing in the 900-block of Douglas Street. As they arrived at the scene, officers saw a man matching the suspect’s description given by the caller. The 47-year-old man was arrested.
The suspect and a 56-year-old man got into a confrontation along the street and the younger man pulled a knife of 17 centimetres. He swiped once at the other, tearing into his sweater. The second swipe caught the older man’s hand, drawing blood. He was later taken to hospital.
Police didn’t immediately find a weapon in the area. They are recommending charges of assault with a weapon against the suspect.
