Police say a drug deal gone awry could be to blame for a stabbing in downtown Victoria on Monday night.
Just before midnight, two people – a man and a woman – got into an argument outside the 7-Eleven store at Quadra and Yates streets. The man then went inside the convenience store and was bleeding profusely from his abdomen.
Police arrived at the scene and gave the man, 60, first-aid, then rushed him to hospital. His injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.
Meanwhile, other officers searched for a suspect. Soon, they arrested a woman matching the suspect’s description in the 900-block of Pandora Ave.
The 31-year-old, who has no fixed address, could be charged with assault with a weapon.
“The two parties were known to each other. The reason for the argument is unknown, but police believe it involved drugs,” Const. Mike Russell said in a press release.
