A 51-year-old man from Port Alberni has been taken to the hospital after driving off the road in Qualicum Beach on Monday morning.

According to Cpl. Jesse Foreman of the Oceanside RCMP, the man was driving a 2018 F-150, heading south on Memorial at Hilliers Road.

“He suddenly drove off the road when he hit a pickup truck, which in turn hit a b-train trailer, like semi-trailer,” said Foreman.

The vehicles were parked on the side of the road and unoccupied. The driver was taken to hospital.

“We got there and he was already in an ambulance on his way to the hospital… he was conscious and breathing, but we’re not sure the extent of his injuries,” said Foreman.

RCMP are uncertain as to the cause of the accident, reported at 6:42 a.m., and no one else was injured.
