An 81-year-old man suffering from dementia went missing yesterday morning in Bowser.
James Roberts was last seen at 10:30 a.m. leaving his home in Bowser near the Lighthouse Community Centre along Lions Way Feb. 4.
According to a news release issued by Oceanside RCMP, Roberts was on foot headed in an unknown direction and “he is quite possibly disoriented.”
Police describe Roberts as: Caucasian, 6’2 ft, slender, short grey hair, green eyes wearing blue jeans, green jacket, brown and white hat and glasses.
Arrowsmith Search and Rescue’s (ASAR) Barry Blair said 20 members were out yesterday, 30 members were out last night and Friday morning mutual aid from Nanaimo, Courtenay, Comox and Port Alberni were on their way to help.
“Our policy is generally that if it (search efforts) need to be ramped up, they’re ramped up fast,” he said.”
Blair confirmed there were no leads as of Friday at 9:30 a.m.
He said people have “extensively” searched the Bowser area all the way up to Deep Bay’s marina. Today, Blair said searchers would concentrate on the forested areas.
