Three Maple Ridge actors take the stage in the theatrical show called Rumors at the upcoming Theatre in the Country production in Langley.
Maple Ridge actors Marla Rae Todd, Paul Becket and John Tabak take on roles in Neil Simon’s only farce titled Rumors from Sept. 6 to Sept. 22.
Marla Rae Todd performs as character Claire Ganz, Paul Becket performs as Lenny Ganz and John Tabak performs as Ernie Cusack.
Glen Kask, Theatre in the Country publicist, describes the show as ‘lively.’
“It’s a lively thing with doors slamming, mistaken identities and many misunderstandings. There’s lots of physicalities in it, so actors have to be limber and have a good sense of comedic timing.”
Rumors is a show that revolves around a dinner party in the late 80’s in New York that is meant to honor a prominent politician.
During the party, everything that can go wrong, does. The disastrous dinner party results in an evening of laughs as the audience witnesses the characters making each situation worse.
While the dinner party unravels, the audience can expect comedic scenes including a tuna casserole, a shot earlobe and the police at the door.
Kask said teenagers and adults will enjoy the chaotic show. Kask added the biggest challenge of the production is getting the timing just right.
“The timing of things. People have to disappear into rooms just before the other enters, so it’s all timed out.”
The show is directed by Charles Harris, who is also the fine arts department head of Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary school in Port Coquitlam.
After spending five years at the Maple Ridge Whonnock elementary location called North Fraser Events Centre, Theatre in the Country had to relocate after the building sold.
Theatre in the Country lost its previous location in Maple Ridge in late 2017, but has relocated to Friends Langley Vineyard Church at 5708 Glover Road, Langley.
The Langley venue allows the theatre to double it’s capacity.
Theatre in the Country’s Rumors show begins with a roast beef buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by the show at 7:30 p.m. Rumors also offers one theatre-only matinee on Sept. 15 at 2:00 p.m.
