After a national search, the City of Maple Ridge has hired Ted Swabey to be its new chief administrative officer.
He will start on Dec. 1. Swabey replaces Jim Rule, who retired earlier this year.
“On behalf of council, I would like to welcome Ted to the city of Maple Ridge team,” said Mayor Nicole Read.
Swabey previously served the City of Nanaimo in senior management roles, including director of planning, general manager of community safety and development, and most recently as chief administrative officer.
Prior to the City of Nanaimo, Swabey was a planning consultant in Guelph and also worked as a commercial property manager in Toronto.
Born and raised in Ottawa, he attended Ridley College in St. Catharine’s and obtained his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Guelph, where he played football.
Swabey also ran the Boston Marathon in 2000 and enjoys the outdoors, mountain biking, in particular.
He and his partner Janet have four children, ages 16 to 23.
The chief administrative officer reporting to mayor and council oversees and is accountable for all operations of the city.
