After running crystal clear for a few hours earlier this month following maintenance, the water bubbler fountains at the entrance to Maple Ridge’s Memorial Peace Park are back to a deep blue colour.
Maple Ridge parks staff originally coloured the water to improve the looks of the fountain, said David Boag, director of parks and facilities.
But an unforeseen benefit of the blue water is that it discourages people from going into the fountains, reducing the risk of injury from possible debris or glass in the pools.
“The fountains are a landscape feature and not intended to be water play features,” Boag said.
The colouring is environmentally safe, he pointed out.
