Welcome to the first March heat wave of 2019.
Two temperature records fell this week, just as they have across B.C., taking Chilliwack from an extended stint of cold — to record heat.
The last days of winter included a high maximum of 24 degrees C, on Tuesday, March 19, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada for Chilliwack. That day reached a peak that was about a dozen degrees above normal, which sits at 12.5 degrees.

It broke the previous maximum high record of 23.9 degrees set back in 1928.
The day also saw a record high mean at 15.65 degrees, which was 8.5 degrees above normal, and broke the previous record mean of 14.5 in 1914.
Monday, March 18 also blew away a record with the record high max of 22.7 degrees in Chilliwack, which was more than 11 degrees above normal.
Previous high max for that day was 20 C set in 1896. It also saw a record high mean of 15.35, 8.5 degrees above normal, smashing the previous high mean of 12.5 C in 1914.
