Marijuana smells a nuisance

Coun. Barry Cunningham asked city staff to look into potential bylaw violations with medicinal marijuana grow-ops around Prince Rupert.

Coun. Barry Cunningham asked city staff to look into the possibility of potential bylaw violations with medicinal marijuana grow-ops around town.

“I wanted to know if smell is [considered] a nuisance because I’ve had more than one complaint from different areas in the city about medicinal grow-ops and the smell coming from them is affecting the houses around them and the neighbourhood,” Cunningham said.

“I would just like to know if we have any teeth in our nuisance bylaw to bite back a bit.”

City manager Bob Long replied that if the smell is considered “noxious” and is on a widespread level than city bylaw staff may be able to take action.
