Mark Strahl takes commanding lead in Chilliwack-Hope

But Conservatives look like they're heading back to opposition bench

Conservative incumbent Mark Strahl has taken a comanding lead as results start trickling in from the 2019 federal election.

With just 23 of 196 polls reporting, Strahl had secured 1,729 votes, compared to his closest rival, Liberal Kelly Velonis, who has 869.

Strahl recieved little threat from the right-wing People’s Party, led by former Conservative leadership hopefule Maxime Bernier. As early numbers came in, local candidate Rob Bogunovic was drawing just three pre cent of the vote.

If re-elected, indications are Stahl will return to the opposition.
