Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment lodged 62 files, which included nine prisoners, in the past week. Numbers of thefts from motor vehicles remained high in comparison to previous months, with two thefts from cars and another incident from a 29-foot travel trailer.

 

Five-digit figure theft

50 to 60 tires, valued at about $35,000 in total, were stolen from Vanderhoof’s Fountain Tire store on May 10 overnight.

According to surveillance video, two men cut through the compound’s fence and loaded the tires onto a large pickup truck with a trailer.

As investigation continues, people with any information are advised to contact the police at the detachment or through CrimeStoppers.

 

Barbecue season

On May 14 at 12:30 p.m., a man was caught leaving the Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op grocery store with a barbecued chicken without paying.

The man is charged for theft under $5,000.

 

Not cooperating

On May 14 at 6:30 p.m., a woman assaulting a man was reported to the police in the Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op mall parking lot.

Arriving on scene, the RCMP found the woman intoxicated and arrested her for assault — she is also known to the police from previous incidents. She proceeded to assault an attending police officer when taken into custody.

The woman is charged for assaulting a peace officer and four counts of breaching probation orders, which included the consumption of alcohol.
