Creston is your home and it’s growing. The past 10 years have witnessed improvements too numerous to list here. Obtaining over $20 million in grants, Town Council and Staff have gained a tremendous amount of momentum towards making this a prime tourist destination and vibrant place to live. The best news is that we’re just getting started.
I have always believed our community extends beyond the Town of Creston boundaries. It is the entire Creston Valley including the leadership of the RDCK and the Lower Kootenay Band. Men and women in support of one another as we strengthen our valley together.
Leadership is not about being the best. Leadership is about making everyone else better. Those who work hard to make Creston a great place to live do just that. It has been my privilege to provide leadership to 3 different Town Councils and I ask for your vote to continue building upon this momentum we’ve worked so hard to achieve.
There are some in our community, just as there are in any other, who choose to spread a message of negativity. Not only is this a hindrance to us moving forward and working together, it is insulting and disrespectful to the hard work accomplished by many. One such hot topic this season, and every season is taxes.
Here’s how much tax I paid on my mothers’ house (jointly-owned) in Creston over the last 10 years. The assessed value in 2008 was $305,700 (gross tax = $3,284) and the assessed value in 2018 was $313,600 (gross tax = $3,747). That is a 14% increase over 10 years. 5% if you discount the RCMP policing cost increase from when our population exceeded five-thousand people. This is a testament to our Town’s excellent budgeting and stewardship of YOUR money.
I am asking for you to vote Yes for the Fire Hall referendum. When you vote yes, you are voting to keep our firefighters safe by providing them with a healthy work environment. You are also voting to keep Creston and the surrounding valley safe with a well-planned facility.
Your voice is important and was heard. Because of this, much work has been done to gather valuable feedback, ensuring our new Fire Hall has the input of Creston’s citizens. When built, it will likely be the most well researched and planned for any community. Our current Town Council is ready to move this forward with your vote of Yes.
I support our experienced incumbent Town Councillors; Jen Comer, Jim Elford, Karen Unruh, and Joanna Wilson, and endorse two newcomers Arnie Deboon and Dallas Magrum, who have visited me and their desire to serve our community is evident.
Your vote for me on 20 October ensures we as a community continue building together, making Creston and the surrounding valley an attractive, vibrant, and desirable place to live, work, and play for us and for future generations. Let’s continue Building Together, Our Best Days are Ahead.
