RCMP and EHS were called to the construction zone south of Williams Lake on Highway 97 Wednesday morning to respond to a medical emergency.
A spokesperson for Cantex Okanagan Construction Ltd. declined to comment on the incident, however, noted it was not work-related.
Staff Sgt. Del Byron said he could not comment on the incident, however confirmed the matter is under investigation by the BC Coroners Service.
Chief Willie Sellars confirmed he is starting to hear some details but that he has not been formally briefed.
“They have shut the project down for the day,” Sellars said of the Cantex project.
The highway project has faced numerous challenges since it began, including the 2017 wildfires, erosion issues and poor weather.
