Surrey welcomed its first baby of 2017 less than half an hour into the New Year.
Abhay Singh Atwal was born at 12:27 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
He was an early surprise for parents Ovinder and Manpreet, as he was due on Jan. 14.

Abhay is the Newton family’s third child, and all are boys. The older two sons Arjun, 10, and Balbhag, 7, are March babies.
The Now caught up with the family on Monday morning when they were packing up their belongings at the hospital to head home.
“It was very quick, not that bad,” said mom Manpreet of baby Abhay’s delivery. “Everything’s good.”
