Meet the ambassador candidate: Maija Larder

First of four bios of the candidates involved in this year's Ambassador Program

Why have you decided to take part in the Arrow Lakes Ambassador Program?

I decided to take part in the Arrow Lakes Ambassador Program because it seemed like it would be fun, and I want to get more comfortable with public speaking.

What expectations do you have for this program? (What would you like to get from the program?)

In this program I would like to learn how to be more professional for job interviews and things like that. I would also like it to help me be more comfortable in public situations.

How long have you live in the Nakusp area? Tell us about your family (brothers, sisters, etc.)

I have lived in Nakusp my entire life with my parents, Crystal and Gary, and my two older sisters, Talasa and Carmen.

What are some of your hobbies, interests, plans, and dreams? What do you plan do to when you graduate from high school?

Some of my hobbies are playing the trumpet, basketball, and volleyball. One of my dreams is to learn to play the drums.

When I graduate from high school I plan to go to college in Kelowna and live with my sisters.

Do you have a job? If so, where do you work and what do you do?

I work for my parents as a vendor at farmers markets and craft fairs for our family business. I also babysit for Rider’s Retreat.

Have you travelled anywhere? If so, where did you go? If not, where would you like to go?

I haven’t travelled much, but I have been to Mexico once for my cousin’s wedding. I’ve also been to Vancouver and Calgary for concerts, and spent some time with family in Illooet and Keremeos. Some places I haven’t been to that I would really like to visit are Disneyland, and Portland, Ore.

Last but not least, give us your thoughts on living on the Arrow Lakes

I like living on the Arrow Lakes because there are lots of nice beaches to camp on with my family in our houseboat, and we have very beautiful forests and mountains.
