Didn’t we just have a municipal election?
Yes, we did, in October 2018. But now there is a council seat vacant, which has led to a byelection on March 27.
Nelson at its Best and Nelson Public Library are presenting a virtual municipal byelection all-candidates forum on March 11 at 6:30 to 8 p.m. This public event will provide an opportunity for the three candidates to listen to and understand the concerns and suggestions from people in Nelson related to key social issues.
This forum will take place on Zoom, and people must pre-register in order to participate.
This unique reverse forum will give the local public and voters the chance to speak to the candidates about their ideas and concerns about life in Nelson as it relates to themes such as housing, poverty reduction, community health, safety and well-being — and the candidate’s job is to listen.
“We start off with the hope that all candidates for public office, regardless of their differing ideologies or perspectives, want to help Nelson be the best community it can be,” says Kim Bater from Nelson at its Best. “This forum is intended to ensure that whomever is elected will be fully informed of the range of important social issues affecting our community.”
To register, click either on the Municipal ByElection Forum link on the front page of www.nelsonlibrary.ca or on Latest News on the front page of www.bestnelson.org.
All Nelson voters are invited to come out, bring their ideas and concerns, and help make social issues a key election issue.
