Memorial unveiled for former councillor

The Village of Radium held a dedication ceremony at the Fire Hall in the memory of late councillor Brent Frederickson.

The Village of Radium held a dedication ceremony at the Radium Fire Hall Friday October 14 in the memory of late councillor Brent Frederickson. Speaking to an assembled crowd that included Frederickson’s family, a number of speakers shared their memories of Frederickson and his time on municipal council.

“We will always remember the great contributions Brent made to the community,” Radium Mayor Dee Conklin told those gathered. “Thank you, Brent, for everything that you did for this community.”

The dedication revolved around a plaque that was unveiled at the front of the fire hall, reading: “In memory of Brent Frederickson — a champion of the village.”

Councillor Ron Verboom also took the time to share his thoughts on the late father of three, who had served on Radium’s village council since its incorporation in 1990.

“What more could be said about Brent as a leader of this community that all of us gathered here today don’t already know in our hearts,” Verboom said.

“Seeing what Radium has grown into is a great measure of our success, and much of that success can be attributed to Brent’s guidance and leadership on council. He wasn’t a big guy, but he sure had broad shoulders. The village is extremely indebted to Brent for his years of municipal service, his wisdom, his thoughtfulness, and his determination. Mr. Radium, you’ve left some pretty big shoes to fill.”

The ceremony took place on what would have been Frederickson’s 60th birthday, on the grounds of the fire hall, which were donated by Frederickson’s family.
