Nanaimo RCMP hope the public can help identify a man suspected of damaging a fire hydrant during a metal theft.
According to police, a man tampered with a fire hydrant, at about 7:40 a.m. Sunday, located outside Mark’s Work Warehouse on Uplands drive in north Nanaimo.
He allegedly removed metal from the inner piping for the hydrant’s fire hose attachment, which required maintenance crews to repair the damage.
Video surveillance captured the image of the man believed to be responsible.
The suspect, according to police, is Caucasian, approximately 45-55 years old and was pushing a shopping cart. He wore a tan coat, white runners and had some kind of black strap wrapped around his waist and legs.
