A five-year-old Metchosin boy with head injuries was airlifted to Vancouver hospital after falling from a bridge at Gordon Bay Provincial Park, near Honeymoon Bay.

The boy fell about three metres into a rocky area on Aug. 17, at about 6 p.m., RCMP say.

“It appears to be an accidental fall,” Lake Cowichan RCMP Cpl. Warren Potter said.  “He fell and hit the back of his head.”

The youngster was still in the intensive-care unit at Vancouver Children’s Hospital Friday. His name has not been released.

“Because the child was transported in a B.C. Air Ambulance, that puts the situation in serious to critical,” B.C. Ambulance spokesperson Kelsie Carwithen said.
