Attacks on downtown Vernon parking meters continue.
Nearly 100 meters have been vandalized – most having the internal clock mechanism that does the timing removed – since the weekend.
After 74 meters were discovered vandalized Monday morning, another 19 were found to have been tampered with Wednesday.
“It’s frustrating,” said Clint Kanester, the City of Vernon’s manager of protective services. “It’s difficult to do this job as it is without having to investigate this.”
The latest set of vandalized meters were discovered down on 32nd Avenue near Centennial Drive (several meters were damaged earlier on Centennial).
The meters have been damaged throughout the downtown core, and officials have been working with business owners to try and recover video surveillance cameras to see if they can come up with a suspect.
Vernon RCMP have received no tips as of Thursday.
Some of the clocks have been found in Vernon Creek, in an abandoned baby stroller, and stuffed into a hole in a bin where a forklift would pick up the bin.
There is also evidence that the person or persons responsible for the vandalism may be stealing some of the coins from the meters.
Anybody with any information on the damage to the meters is asked to call the Vernon RCMP.
