Anyone using a popular Coldstream boat launch may eventually need loose change to cover parking.
The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee voted Thursday to pursue parking meters that have been removed from provincial parks so they can possibly be installed at the Kalavista Drive boat launch.
“It may be a reasonable approach to see if we can investigate purchasing some of those meters,” said director Gyula Kiss.
GVAC has been asked by the District of Coldstream to consider pay parking at the launch as a way of dealing with traffic and congestion.
At least one other local politician would also like to see meters installed at the Kal Beach parking lot.
“We could do improvements at the parking lot if we had the funding,” said director Jack Gilroy.
Gilroy says he has had preliminary discussions with staff about meters as a way of supporting enhancements like a pedestrian walkway across the rail tracks.
GVAC will also pursue another request from the District of Coldstream.
The municipality wants an increased RCMP presence on Kalamalka Lake during peak boat season times to enforce safe boating practices.
