There’s been a large seizure of drugs in Vernon.
During a routine patrol Saturday afternoon, an RCMP officer came into contact with two individuals and that led to a discovery of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and pills, as well as cash and weapons.
“It was was a substantial amount of drugs,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
“It would be in excess of $5,000 or $6,000) street value).”
At about 3:15 p.m., the officer noticed an eastbound car on 25th Avenue turn on to 34th Street and then stop on an access road. A man wearing a hoodie and ball cap then got out of the car and walked away although the driver’s door was still open.
The officer approached the individual and asked for a driver’s license, which the suspect was unable to produce.
“At this point, the suspect became nervous and very fidgety,” said Molendyk.
During a search of the suspect, the officer found a small vial of suspected heroin and $2,000 in a jacket pocket.
The 28-year-old Vernon man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Still in the car was a 22-year-old Vernon woman and when she was asked to get out, the officer noticed an extendable baton on the passenger seat where she had been sitting.
The woman, who was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, was found to be breaching a curfew from Prince Rupert.
Both individuals were taken back to the RCMP detachment and while in cells, an additional $7,900 was found in the man’s shoe and methamphetamines, cocaine, and heroin, pills and other weapons were found in the car.
The suspects were expected to appear in court Monday.
