Family histories lost in time can sometimes be brought to light with a little research help.
The Chilliwack Métis Association is hosting an open house and Genealogy Day Workshop on Saturday, February 22 led by Laurel Katernick, Métis Nation of BC’s citizenship director.
“Volunteers will be on hand to help those having difficulty completing their family tree or obtaining birth/marriage documents and records,” said Louis De Jaeger of the CMA. “Bring what you have and we will help you to connect the dots.”

While conducting his own family research years ago, De Jaeger discovered that his great-great-great uncle John Norquay was the first Métis premier of Manitoba.
The open house will be held in suite #111 of Building 5A, at 7201 Vedder Road, Chilliwack on the Coqualeetza Campus Grounds, from 10 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. with CMA board members on-hand to answer questions about resources and services for Metis living in Chilliwack and the surrounding area.
The workshop is geared to assisting with citizenship renewals or questions regarding citizenship applications.
