Three luxury sports cars were impounded Sunday morning after they appeared to be street racing through town on the highway.
A uniformed member in a marked police vehicle was stopped at a gas station at the corner of Harvey Avenue and Spall Road when he observed three sports cars accelerate past him, June 15 at 7:50 a.m.
“The officer followed the trio southbound on Harvey Avenue and watched as they accelerated quickly from stops and appeared to be racing each other through town. The officer activated the emergency equipment on his police vehicle and stopped the three cars near Richter Street for the offense of street racing,” said Const. Kris Clark.
The drivers were apparently on their way to a car show but their cars would never make it there as a black Audi R8, yellow Lamborghini and a red ’66 Corvette were all impounded for a minimum of seven days.
A 31-year-old Kelowna man, a 43-year old Kelowna man and a 44-year old Kelowna man were all ticketed for Driving Without Due Care and issued 15-day driving prohibitions.
Depending on the circumstances, including the drivers’ records, their licences could face further suspensions. Vehicles impounded for street racing may also be subject to forfeiture under the Civil Forfeiture Act.
