The Vernon RCMP detachment is investigating the case of the missing Mexican migrant workers.
Four men have been reported missing from a BX area orchard where they had been working.
“The men went missing on June 26, leaving their personal effects behind. However, it appears they took their identification papers with them,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
The investigation, said Molendyk, has learned one of two things might have happened with the workers.
The men may have gone to the South Okanagan to work on another orchard, but they have not checked in with the Mexican consulate to notify them of a change in employment.
“Another aspect of the investigation suggests the men may have attempted to cross over to the United States but this cannot be confirmed,” said Molendyk. “The migrant workers are flagged with Canada Border Services Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.”
The four men are listed as Uriel Huizar Soto, age 37, (address unknown); Juan Manuel Sanchez Gallegos, 30 (address unknown); Issac Jimenez Bautista, 28, of Carretera, Picacho al Ajusco, Mexico City; and Juvenal Rios Binedo, 39, (address unknown).
Police only have photos for Soto and Sanchez Gallegos.
All four men came to Canada on June 16.
