Hockey Canada has added Mission’s own Gage Goncalves to the roster of their National Junior Team Sport Check Development Camp.
Goncalves and 16 other WHL players will participate in the virtual camp from July 27 to 31.
“Putting on those colours will definitely be a big step for me.” Goncalves said in a July 15 social media post. “I just want to thank my mom and dad … for putting their lives on hold to let me pursue my dream.”
Goncalves had a successful season with the Everett Silvertips in the Western Conference of the WHL’s U.S. Division. He appeared in 60 games and racked up 33 goals and 38 assists.
Goncalves is currently ranked 80th by NHL scouts and is eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft.
The 2020 World Ice Hockey Junior Championships are set to return to host cities Edmonton and Red Deer in December.
