According to the District of Mission website, the skate park is closed to the public until further notice. Fencing has been installed.
Other closures/cancellations include:
- The gate to Rocky Point has also been closed, and access to the flats has been stopped until further notice.
- The annual Bike to Work Week in Mission has been cancelled for 2020.
- The boat launch on Harbour Avenue is closed to the public until further notice.
- Spring Cleanup and Household Hazardous Waste Day postponed.
Curbside Collection:
To help stop the spread of COVID-19 and to protect Mission waste collection workers, some changes to collection have been implemented.
Contaminated paper products such as facial tissues, paper napkins and paper towels, must be contained in a securely tied plastic bag for curbside collection. For inclusion in the compost, bags must be certified “compostable.”
Alternatively, these paper products can be put in the garbage in a securely tied, regular plastic bag.
Personal protection items, such as face masks, gloves, personal hygiene products, and “flushable” sanitary wipes, must be contained in a securely tied plastic bag and put in the garbage. Despite their label, “flushable” wipes do not break down in the sanitary sewer system and can cause sewer backups.
White Foam Packaging:
The Mission Recycling Depot has suspended collection of white foam packaging until further notice. Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, Recycle BC is experiencing a reduction in recycling capacity for white foam packaging. As of March 24, white foam packaging will temporarily not be accepted for recycling at depots, including the Mission Recycling Depot on Mershon Street.
Either store the white foam until the markets are accepting the white foam again, or if needed place it in your garbage bin. Coloured foam packaging can still be dropped off at depots for recycling.
