An inmate in Mission Institution’s minimum security unit was found dead on Thursday.
On March 5, inmate Rajan Mann was discovered in the living unit bathroom. He was unresponsive.
Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. Mann could not be resuscitated.
At the time of his death, Mann, who was 34 years old, had been serving a sentence of nine years for extortion, forcible confinement, kidnap, robbery and theft. He began serving his time on July 6, 2012.
The inmate’s next of kin has been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
