Flags are at half-mast in front of the Mission RCMP detachment, in honour of the memory of Abbotsford Police Const. John Davidson.
The 24-year police veteran was shot and killed in the line of duty in Abbotsford on Monday.
“We were deeply saddened to hear of the loss suffered by the Abbotsford Police Department yesterday. As a neighbouring police service many members of our detachment have close ties and relationships with Abbotsford Police. That has made this particularly hard for us,” said Insp. Annette Fellner, officer in charge at the Mission RCMP detachment.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Abbotsford Police Department, along with the family and friends of the police officer who was killed yesterday.”
Mission Fire Rescue Services also expressed its sympathies on its Facebook site.
“Mission Fire Rescue Service is extremely sad to hear of the passing of the Abbotsford Police officer killed today in the line of duty while protecting his community.
“Our sincerest condolences to Chief Constable Bob Rich, all members of Abbotsford Police Department and the family and friends of the fallen officer.”
During Monday evening’s Mission council meeting, a moment of silence was held for Davidson.
“The events are tragic,” said Mission Mayor Randy Hawes, “but, thankfully they don’t happen very often.”
