Mission is experiencing an increase in bicycle thefts, according to a press release issued by the local RCMP.
With that fact in mind, the Mission RCMP are offering some tips to help you combat the problem.
Get a good lock and remember to lock your bike. Bike thieves prefer to work smarter, not harder, and will always go for the bike that is not locked.
Take a picture of your bike and record the serial number. With accurate, detailed information, the police can identify a bike that is stolen and return it to the owner.
Report any stolen bicycles and any suspicious activity that you observe to the police. The Mission RCMP rely on good information from the public to do their job well.
The Mission RCMP do take bike thefts seriously and have employed several different strategies to deal with the issue. In the last couple of weeks, countless bikes have been checked and many recovered as stolen property.
Officers are taking a zero tolerance approach with bike thieves and recommending charges when possible.
Anyone with information regarding this issue is asked to contact the Mission RCMP non-emergency line at 604-826-7161 or Crime Stoppers 1-888-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
