A 37-year-old Mission resident is in police custody after a police vehicle was shot at last week.

Dustin McDonald has been charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm for the purpose of committing an offence, intentionally discharging a firearm, and intentionally discharging a firearm at a police vehicle.

The incident happened in the 32900 block of Best Avenue on the evening of Nov. 27 when police responded to a call in the area.

According to Mounties, “shots were allegedly fired at RCMP members who quickly took cover.”

Police say one shot struck a vehicle, but no one was injured.

Members of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Teams, along with Mission RCMP officers, were deployed to the area. The suspect surrendered to police and was arrested without incident.

“(Integrated Homicide Investigation Team) continues to lead this investigation and we continue to gather information and evidence,” said Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound, who explained IHIT was called in to initially investigate the shots at RCMP members as attempted murder.
