A single-vehicle crash on Boxing Day claimed the life of a 26-year-old Mission woman.
According to police, a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo went off the road in the 11700 block of Dewdney Trunk Road on Dec. 26 around 6:30 p.m. and came to a stop in a ditch after striking a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle. She was extracted from the car by firefighters and taken by air ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital where she was treated for severe injuries. She succumbed to her injuries three days later.
The driver has been identified as Ashley Crouch.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and investigators are still awaiting a mechanical report on the vehicle involved. Police say the area of the roadway where the crash occurred is flat and straight, but did not have any lights.
“It was dark and there was light rain at the time,” said Mission RCMP Sgt. Shaun Wright. “We do want to remind the public to slow down and take extra care when driving in winter conditions.”
