Skaha Lake Middle School and West Bench Elementary School will have new principals next year

There will be more staff changes at school’s in and around Penticton next school year.

School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) announced Thursday Darryl Tenisci will be the new principal of Skaha Lake Middle School, effective August 1.

Tenisci has worked as principal of West Bench Elementary for the past three years. Prior to that he served as vice-principal at Summerland Middle and McNicoll Park Middle. Before that, he was a teacher at both Skaha Lake Middle and McNicoll Park Middle. He also served as Summer School principal – middle and secondary levels in 2010 and 2011. Before joining School District No. 67, Tenisci was a teacher in Northland School Division 61 (Alberta).

Tenisci has a Master of Education in Leadership and Administration from Gonzaga University and a Bachelor of Education Degree (Secondary) from the University of Alberta.

Tenisci succeeds Terry Grady who is retiring from his position as principal of Skaha Lake Middle School. Mr. Grady joined the district 18 years ago, accepting a position as a vice-principal at Penticton Secondary. Four years later, he was re-assigned to Princess Margaret Secondary, where he worked as a vice-principal for six years and as principal for five years. In August 2016 he became principal at Skaha Lake Middle.

Janice Binding has been appointed principal of West Bench Elementary School, effective August 1.

Binding is currently vice-principal of David Brankin Elementary in School District No. 36 (Surrey); a position she has held for the past three years. Previous experience includes teaching at the elementary level for eight years in Surrey and for three years in School District No. 43 (Coquitlam). Binding started her career in School District No. 41 (Burnaby) where she taught music at the secondary level.

Binding has a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Teacher Certification from the Professional Development Program at the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Music and a Diploma of Elementary Music from the University of Victoria.
