More staff changes at town hall

Changes to the senior management team at the Town of Princeton continue.

Changes to the senior management team at the Town of Princeton continue.

This week the municipality is advertising for a new director of finance, following the departure of Bobbi Tomchuk, who assumed that post two months ago.

A new director of infrastructure has also been hired, and will take up his duties June 13, according to CAO Cheryl Martens.

Martens, who began working for the town in January, could not give specifics regarding the sudden vacancy in the finance department.

“I can’t say too much. I can tell you she was accredited, she is an accountant and what we need in this position is someone who has an extensive background in municipal legislation.”

Tomchuk was hired in November 2017, but didn’t begin her job here until March.

Janice Aver, who acted as the director of finance on an interim basis previous to Tomchuk’s arrival, has resumed her responsibilities in the short term, said Martens.

Jamie Umpleby is the new infrastructure director.

He is the former public works director at the City of Coquitlam.

“He has an extensive background and experience in infrastructure and…extensive knowledge of our infrastructure system,” said Martens.

Michael Mazurek left the top infrastructure job, suddenly, in March.

Mayor Frank Armitage said he is confident in the town’s managers.

“We want these key people with the right qualifications,” he said.

“With Cheryl we are very fortunate to get somebody with her experience and she’s shown her abilities in handling the business and the restructuring that she is doing.”
