Several local students will be among those competing today (Wednesday) during the Skills Canada BC event at Tradex in Abbotsford.
More than 600 students in Grades 6 to 12 will compete in 58 fields such as aerospace, automotive, 3D animation, baking, welding, robotics and more.
The participants are all gold-medal winners from regional competitions held earlier this year, including the Fraser Valley event that took place March 1 at University of the Fraser Valley in Chilliwack.
Gold-medal winners at today’s provincial competition will advance to the Skills Canada National Competition, running June 4 and 5 in Edmonton.
Abbotsford students competing today at Tradex are:
– Casielle Mar and Brendan Kinney from Abbotsford School of the Integrated Arts (ASIA) in 2D animation;
– Arianna Guenette from ASIA in architectural CAD;
– Noah Janz from ASIA in automotive;
– Joe Fiscus from Robert Bateman Secondary in carpentry;
– Kurtis Stevenson from W. J. Mouat Secondary (WJMS) in architectural CAD;
– Isaac Moorhouse from WJMS in carpentry;
– Mat Le Clair from WJMS in electrical wiring;
– Rheis Setter and Kobe Lightfoot from WJMS in TV and film; and
– Sonia Khurana and Jaskiran Chauhan from Abbotsford Senior Secondary in TV and film.
