Feeling the itch? Mosquitoes are out in full force and so is the TNRD.
The Thompson Nicola Regional District advised last week that with the recent hot weather, the North Thompson River began rising again.
They note that the focus for mosquito control for TNRD staff is the monitoring of larvae development sites influenced by flood water and any remaining larvae development sites influenced by snow melt water. The snow melt sites were detected in follow up monitoring and calls from the public into the TNRD’s advisory line. Technicians visited callers in Knutsford, Upper Clearwater, Tobiano and Sun Peaks. Mosquito larvae were also found in the Sun Peaks Village and were treated.
Last week, mosquito trapping equipment was set up at Tobiano and an aerial survey took place in search of potential habitat. A number of sites were identified and follow up treatment and monitoring is ongoing.
This past weekend large larvae development sites in Darfield, ChuChua and McLure became ready for treatment resulting in BWP Consulting and Summit Helicopters carrying out an aerial treatment in those areas earlier this week.
The North Thompson was peaking, and so a full aerial treatment of all habitat from Birch Island to Kamloops began the morning of June 6. Depending on the development sites in the Chase area, it was possible an aerial treatment may have taken place there as well.
