Students hoping school would be closed after Thursday’s windstorm are out of luck.
After winds reaching more than 100 kilometres an hour hit Vancouver Island on Dec. 20, it’s business as usual for most schools in Greater Victoria.
School District 61 has power outages at Shoreline Middle School and Torquay Elementary as of 7:20 a.m. on Dec. 21, but schools are still open. Classes will start later than usual as the district waits to hear from BC Hydro about the two outages.

SD63 issued a reminder to parents that all schools in Saanich are open on Dec. 21 following the wind storm that hit Vancouver Island the day before.
In Sooke’s SD62, Port Renfrew Elementary School is the only one with the day off — it would have been their last day before the winter break. Busses are picking up students as usual.
Camosun College and the University of Victoria have not issued a public alert regarding campus closures.
