Most of Keremeos council looking to be re-elected

Jason Wiebe is the only Keremeos council member who has not yet declared they are running

Only one member of Keremeos council has yet to decide whether or not he will run in the upcoming municipal election.

Jason Wiebe, who was first elected to village council in 2014, said he hadn’t completely made up his mind but was “seriously considering.”

Sherry Philpott-Adhikary the other new village councillor in 2014, confirmed she would be running.

Longtime politician Jeremy Evans has also committed.

Evans has served on council for seven terms for a total of 22 years.

Arlene Arlow is also planning to run. If successful, it will be her third term on council. Arlow was absent from council for about six months for health reasons.

Mayor Manfred Bauer also plans to run again. He has served as mayor for two terms and was a councillor previously.

“Council would like to see the wonderful projects that we’ve started come to completion like the downtown project, the sewer upgrades and of course having started the infrastructure replacement,” he said.

The municipal election takes place Oct. 20.

This will be the first time mail in ballots will be allowed in Keremeos. An advance poll will take place and voters will also be deciding on whether the village should take a loan out to buy a new fire truck.
