Motorcycle accident leads to injuries in Lake Country

Motorcycle accident on Highway 97 had traffic stopped.

A man was rushed to hospital in serious condition following a motorcycle crash on Highway 97 in Lake Country.

On Saturday at 12:11 pm, the RCMP responded to a report of a serious injury motorcycle collision on Highway 97 about five kilometres north of Oceola Road.

“Police have determined that a black Honda motorcycle was southbound on Highway 97 when its rider lost control of the bike and landed over the embankment on the west side of the highway,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old Lake Country man, was found unconscious at the scene. Bystanders, including an off-duty nurse and members of the RCMP, performed CPR on the victim for several minutes while awaiting the arrival of paramedics.

“The victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in grave condition,” said O’Donaghey.

An RCMP collision re-constructionist conducted a detailed analysis of the crash scene. “Initial findings at the scene suggest that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash,” said O’Donaghey.

The RCMP continue to investigate this crash and ask that witnesses, who have not yet spoken to police, contact Cst. Katrina Claypool at 250-766-2288.
