A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after being struck by a pickup truck on a busy Vernon road Wednesday morning.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP kept the intersection of 27th Street and 30th Avenue closed for several hours on Aug. 19 while an investigation was underway.
A pickup truck was making a left-hand turn from 30th Avenue onto 27th Street by the Vernon Courts when the westbound motorcycle entered the intersection and struck the passenger side of the truck.
Despite being rushed to hospital at around 8 a.m., the motorcycle operator succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck remained on scene and was cooperative with police, RCMP said.
Several people stopped to help the motorcyclist, media relations officer Cpl. Tania Finn said, but police are still interested in talking with anyone travelling eastbound at the time of the incident.
The family of the deceased has been notified and is receiving grief supports.
Police and emergency crews have since cleared the scene and the intersection is reopened to traffic.
The BC Coroners Service and police continue to investigate the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this collision, who have not already spoken to police, is urged to contact Cst Steven McCarthy of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171.
