Gas and dash
On May 8 at 5:30 p.m., RCMP received a call about a theft of fuel from the Super Save Gas Station in Grand Forks.
“A yellow motorhome pulled up, filled with fuel and drove off,” said RCMP Cpl. Richard Lanz of the Grand Forks RCMP detachment.
Lanz said Super Save will now be changing their system which allowed drivers to fill up and then pay, to a pay first system.
Motorcycle crashes on lawn
On May 9 at 6:05 a.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle incident at the corner of Pineview Crescent and McCallum View Drive in Grand Forks.
“The driver of a motorcycle lost control of the motorcycle going across the lawn and flipped the motorcycle on a lawn in front of a residence,” said Lanz. “The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. The driver was later flown to Kelowna for further treatment.”
Lanz said the driver, a 19-year-old male from Grand Forks, has since returned to the community. “At this time he has been charged with driving without due care and attention and having the wrong class of licence.”
Male jumps border
On May 11 at 11:05 a.m., RCMP received a call from Cascade Border Services advising them of a male who had crossed the border without reporting. “Police Dog Services was already in the area and assisted with the call,” said Lanz. “The male was located walking on the highway by the Christina Lake dump and was arrested for entering Canada illegally.”
As a result, Canada Border Services was contacted and the male was transported to Vancouver for a hearing and would be deported back to the United States, said Lanz.
Woman fails ASD test
On May 12 at 10 p.m. Police observed a vehicle travelling west bound on Highway 3.
“The vehicle was noted to have a side window missing,” said Lanz. “The vehicle was stopped and checked. The driver of the vehicle had an odour of alcohol coming from them. As a result a roadside screening device (ASD) demand was read.”
The driver, a 63-year-old female from Grand Forks, provided a breath sample and blew a fail. As a result the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days, said Lanz.
Stealing candy
On May 13 at 6:20 p.m., RCMP responded to a call of a female attempting to steal candy from the PetroCan station in Grand Forks.
“As a result of the complaint, the female was located and arrested for shoplifting,” said Lanz. “A further search was conducted where the female had in possession some alcohol, morphine and methamphetamines.”
Lanz said the female, a 29-year-old Grand Forks resident, was on probation to abstain from using any illegal substances. She will be appearing in court at a later date.
ASD warn for senior
On May 13 at 7:20 p.m., RCMP were advised of a vehicle on Donaldson Avenue being driven by a possible impaired driver. “The vehicle was stopped and there was an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath,” said Lanz. “As a result, an ASD warning demand was read. The driver provided a result of his breath which was a warn.”
The driver, a 79-year-old male from Grand Forks, received a three-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for three days.
Women yelling
On May 14 at 4:13 p.m. a report was received by police of two women yelling and screaming at one another on Highway 3 just outside of Grand Forks. “Police attended and located one female who was very intoxicated,” said Lanz. “The female was arrested for being drunk in a public place and brought back to the detachment and locked in a cell.”
The female, a 44-year-old resident of Grand Forks, was released the next day with a violation ticket for being drunk in a public place.
Stolen car
On May 17 at 8:33 a.m., police received a report of a theft of a Ford pick-up truck, which was stolen from Christina Lake the night before.
“The vehicle was uninsured and had a full tank of gas,” said Lanz. “At the time of the report there were no suspects or no indication of direction of travel.”
On May 25 Grand Forks RCMP were informed by the Creston RCMP that they had recovered the stolen vehicle in their area. The matter is still being investigated.
Youth fails ASD test
On May 24 at 1:36 p.m., RCMP in the downtown area on Second Street observed a vehicle. “The vehicle was stopped and checked,” said Lanz. “An odour of liquor was coming from the drivers’ breath, who admitted having three drinks.”
Lanz said an ASD demand was read and the driver blew a fail. The driver, a 22-year-old female Grand Forks, received a 90-day driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
