The Municipality of North Cowichan will be restricting public motorized vehicle access into its Municipal Forest Reserve to help mitigate the potential of forest fires as more dry weather is forecast.
Mount Prevost, Mount Sicker, and Grace Road forestry gates will be locked as of 7:30 a.m. on July 22 until further notice.
Forestry gates on Maple Mountain, Mount Tzouhalem, and Mount Richards are closed year-round.
The MFR remains open for non-motorized recreational use, such as hiking, horse-back riding, and mountain biking.
Overnight camping, campfires, and fireworks are not permitted in the MFR at any time.
Temperatures in the Cowichan Valley soared into the 30 C range on the weekend and continued hot into the week of July 27.
