Fernie’s Mountain High Adventures is celebrating a quarter century of river rafting fun this summer.
Founded in 1995, the company originally operated out of Cranbrook, focusing on multi-day raft and kayak tours on the Kootenay River. Moving to Fernie in 1997, Mountain High Adventures shifted their focus to epic whitewater runs on the Bull River and Raging Elk Canyon.
Fast forward to 2020, the company is based at the Fernie RV Resort and continues to entertain those courageous enough to ride the waves.
“The Elk River is such an important resource for the valleys communities,” said co-owner of Mountain High Adventures, Jon Knauf.
“I feel so lucky that I get to spend my days paddling on such an epic river, shooting photos, and taking adventurous customers into these epic places. I want to extend a huge thanks to all the guides and staff for this season and over the past 25 years. Stoked for the next 25.”
Offering river fun for all ages and abilities, their team of highly trained guides take customers through class one, two, three and four rapids. For parties with children too young to head down the canyon, the Ghostrider Family Raft is available for trips to the rapids upstream of Fernie, providing a great introduction to white water rafting with great waves, swimming holes, and river-side snacks.
Mountain High Adventures also offers a variety of rentals including stand up paddle boards (SUP), kayaks, canoes, bikes, and van shuttles, as well as delicious Island Farms ice cream.
Supsquatches, 20 foot long inflatable SUPs designed for up to 10 people, are also available to maximize summer fun. Though the supsquatches were originally purchased for stag and stagette groups, families are also encouraged to partake in the exciting group activity.
