It was moving day on April 25 for the Penticton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch No. 4).

Volunteers were carrying out kitchenware and other items from the old location on Martin Street on Thursday morning.

Former president Elaine Potter said relocating to a smaller spot was necessary due to declining membership over the years.

“We are losing more of our veterans and our new veterans aren’t turning out like the olds one,” she said.

A concern with the move was whether the Legion could transfer its liquor and game licenses. But in mid-April, the city supported transferring the licenses to the old Army Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) Club located at 257 Brunswick St.

Marina Ashley, who is secretary of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, said the move is a good idea.

“It’s a step up, and a nice change.”

The new spot is smaller, but Ashley said it has some helpful additions such as a full kitchen the membership can utilize.

With a seniors complex nearby, there will also be more visitors, she said.

“I think once we’re settled, everyone will be happy.”
